On Sunday 10th June, women* and girls from across the UK will come together to create a vast participatory artwork taking place simultaneously for one day in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. PROCESSIONS will be a living portrait of UK women in the 21st century. It will be a visual expression of equality, strength and cultural representation, inviting all women to unite and celebrate the early fight for the right to vote and express what it means to be a woman today.
How we will make the artwork
On the day, everyone who has signed up to take part in PROCESSIONS will be given a cotton wrap in either Green, White or Violet, the colours of the suffragette movement which stand for Give Women Votes.
You will be asked to wear the wrap over your clothes – in the style of a shawl or a head scarf or any way you want to!
You will be invited to walkin one of three lanes according to your colour – Green, White and Violet – to create an amazing visual image of a vast moving river in stripes of colour.
If you have brought a banner you have made
There will be special sections of the procession for banners. If you have made banners to carry, you will be asked to walk in one of these sections. Our stewards and volunteers will help you find your place on the day.
